Politics and geography are closely related phenomena. This is especially true in Japan, a society characterized by a profound rural-urban cleavage. In this digital humanities seminar, we will investigate this relationship and will uncover the geographical aspect of party politics, most notably on the factional level. For this, we will review the Japanese literature, investigate factional membership by looking into various data, such as financial contribution reports, and cross-check the literature. For visualization of our results, we will create maps on the ArcGis StoryMaps platform (https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories).
